from Herbert Giles' English translations of Fu-Mi.

Separated lovers

In the kingdom of Yen lives a young man.
In the kingdom of Chao lives a beautiful girl.
To tell the truth, these kingdoms are not very distant,
but a chain of towering mountains keeps them well and truly apart.
"You, clouds, on your strong breasts, carry me off,
winds, be my horses and gallop!"
The clouds of the sky do not listen to the voice,
the changing breeze, blows up and drops again,
I stay in the bitterness of my thoughts
thinking of the loved one I shall never reach.
